Just 16 miles away, the glorious north Devon coast invites exploration – from Bude to Ilfracombe is a spectacular sequence of towering cliffs and there are long, wide stretches of sand where surfers ride the Atlantic rollers and the bucket and spaders dig merrily on. The heights of Hartland Point (325 ft) offer magnificent views and invigorating sea air, and Hartland Quay and Clovelly – a peaceful Devon village where donkeys and sledges are the only traffic through quaint narrow streets – are a delight. To the south of Bude lie Widemouth Bay, Boscastle and Tintagel. The whole coastline is a walkers' paradise, whilst further afield visitors will find the granite plateau of Dartmoor and the infinite charms of Exmoor, and the Eden project is about 1½ hours' drive. There is sailing and wind surfing (courses available) on Roadford Lake (4 miles away) as well as fly fishing for brown trout and a perfect place for picnics. Golf, riding and tennis are available locally. The market towns of Holsworthy, Okehampton and Launceston offer good amenities and there is a shop/P.O. and pub serving food in Ashwater (1½ miles). £425.00
